1 Peabody Education Fund
истПервая в США благотворительная организация, созданная для финансовой поддержки образования. Основана в 1867 Дж. Пибоди [ Peabody, George]. Первые взносы были направлены в районы, пострадавшие в ходе Гражданской войны [ Civil War], в том числе в южные штаты. Через фонд колледжи и университеты получили более 3,6 млн. долларов. В 1914 Фонд был упразднен, а остатки средств направлены на поддержку Педагогического колледжа Джорджа Пибоди [George Peabody College for Teachers] в г. Нашвилле, шт. (1795-1869) Пибоди, ДжорджТорговец, финансист, меценат, филантроп. К середине XIX в. был обладателем одного из крупнейших в мире состояний, но еще при жизни щедро раздавал его на цели благотворительности. За счет его фондов были созданы Институты Пибоди в г. Балтиморе и в г. Пибоди, шт. Массачусетс [Peabody Institutes], музеи его имени в Йельском и Гарвардском университетах [Peabody Museums at Yale and Harvard].
